Community Development/Pomonok Houses

At the QCH Pomonok Community Center in Flushing, we provide a network of services, programs and activities that respond directly to the expressed challenges and concerns of residents of the Pomonok Houses and the surrounding community. Our goal is to help build a stronger, more stable community through the development of local leadership that includes both adults and youth.

Our community organizing project is working to identify program opportunities and potential partners, and actively engage Pomonok residents, religious and community leaders and other organized groups in the revitalization. The community organizing staff are conducting a formal community needs assessment, the results of which will be used to craft new and continuing programming.

Currently we offer the following programs:

Computer Classes for Working Adults: Learn computer skills that are needed in the workplace today, with an emphasis on Word, Excel, Powerpoint and the Internet (Fee)

Intergenerational Quilting Class: Ms. Thadine Wormly, who has been quilting for years, leads this class. She and her work have won wide recognition and exposure, with exhibits in Queens Borough Hall, York College, Jamaica Arts Center, Maple Grove Cemetery and other venues.
